Solda

Solda (German: Sulden) is a ski resort located at 1800 meters of altitude, directly at the foot of Zebrù, Gran Zebrù (German: Königsspitze) and Ortles (German: Ortler), the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps. Solda is also called the “Siberia of Tyrol”, because of the snow duration; the famous alpinist Reinhold Messner transported some yaks here from Tibet. They adapted themselves very well to the South Tyrolean climate and these animals became a tourist attraction. The alpinist has also opened one of his “Mountain Museums” in Solda, which will be interesting for the nature and culture fans. Another Solda attraction in winter and in summer is the Stelvio National Park (Italian: Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio, German: Nationalpark Stilfser Joch), a famous destination for many kinds of hiking trips.
